III. Bài mẫu:

I’ve been fortunate to have met many people from all walks of life who have inspired me in various ways. Anyway, there is one person who pushes me to pursue my passion and that is definitely none other than my mother.

She was an eccentric and ambitious person who had a deep love for reading and discovering new things. From a young age, she taught me how to think creatively and always told me thought-provoking stories such as science fiction, and ancient civilizations. Then, when I’m a little bit older, she gradually helped me to find out what is my passion and stimulated me to pursue it constantly

Back then, about two years ago, when I was struggling with a bunch of art projects because of a lack of ideas, then my mother took me to visit several famous museums for a whole week. Especially, every time I come home from a visit tour, my mother makes me write a summary as a report of my experiences and new knowledge I have learned from that day. And suddenly, as I reread those reports, a flood of ideas popped into my head. At that time I felt very really grateful to my mother

Honestly, my mother has always been a mentor and role model for me throughout high school and beyond. She taught me to be curious, open-minded, and passionate about learning. This makes me appreciate life more than ever.

V. PART 3 QUESTIONS:

1. Which types of people become role models in your society?

I think the most common role models in most societies are celebrities. Generally, when a lot of people come to know your name, they will often shift into the position of role model whether they are deserving of being one or not. While this is certainly not an inherently good thing, it does seem to be human nature. It is everyone’s own personal responsibility to choose which people to look up to as role models.

  • Role model: hình mẫu lí tưởng
  • Human nature: bản tính tự nhiên của con người

2. Do you agree that famous people have more responsibilities than ordinary people?

I don’t think that it is exactly correct to say that famous people have more responsibilities than ordinary people. Though I do think that it would be correct to say that they have different responsibilities from the rest of us. Due to their high level of influence in how people act towards each other and how they view the world, it is important for them to be conscious of socially important topics when they speak in public.

  • Conscious: nhận thức được

3. What happens when young people lack good role models?

I think that when young people lack good role models, they find role models in other people, who are not good role models. This can have long- term negative impacts if not corrected for. If people learn to idolize the incorrect values of a person, then changing that later in life would be very difficult, as it becomes part of their personality to view those positions as positive.

  • Long- term: về lâu dài
  • Idolize (v)  /ˈaɪ.dəl.aɪz/: thần tượng hóa

4. What standards of behaviour should teachers set?

While teachers should certainly aim to be good role models, there is a lot of diversity in how they choose to do that. Two different people can be role models for completely different reasons. For example, I have one teacher who is extremely kind, generous, and always very involved with other teachers and classes. On the other hand, I have another teacher who promotes independence, self reliance and personal motivation. These things are very different from each other but can both be important factors to look up to.

  • Diversity (n): sự đa dạng

Does television adequately reflect the ethnic and cultural diversity of the country?

  • Independence (n): sự độc lập
